The study population includes 377 American Indians (131 men, 246 women) aged >=18 years old who participated in any of the five kidney study protocols we conducted between 1988 and 2020. Most participants had type 2 diabetes and various stages of DKD. All participants were selected to have some Pima/Tohono O odham heritage. They were recruited from the Gila River and Ak-Chin Indian Communities. Some were also living off reservation. A large number of the original subjects have died or are lost to follow-up. However, we remain in contact with many of the participants from the most recent protocol, 13-DK-N151. We will contact the available patients whose data we intend to use in this study and invite them to participate in the current study.
